Day 6
The alarm went off at 8 and frankly neither of us were hungry so we took the bold decision to forfeit breakfast for some more kip.
So worth it after yesterday’s late night.
Pick up was at 12:15 with a view to leaving for the 2nd ODI at 12:30.
We were prompt (of course we were) and they took us off to a coach park near the stadium.
What they failed to say was that this was in between a shanty town and a wall topped with barbed wire.
Lovely.
Still we got in on time and went up to the air conditioned boxes.
We were there for a while then Joss wanted to go outside.
So here she is.
But she thought, there’s something missing .
Ah yes - comfort.
So engrossed in the cricket she completely missed an obvious photo opportunity.
Then Joss made a ooooooo Colombo friend.
Then she made ooooooo 2 Colombo friends.
I stayed in the cool box on my own with lots of beer and was very happy.
One thing I haven’t mentioned about the ground is that the stairs are like the stairs in Hogwarts in that they move.
One time you can go down a flight to go to the loo and then go up a flight and end up next to David Gower commentating for TNT.
Or maybe you end up behind the scoreboard - I lost quite a few overs of the first game just trying to get back to my seat but this game I pretty much nailed it.
We managed to keep Sri Lanka down to a reasonable total and to everyone’s surprise we managed to knock off the runs to leave the last game the decider.
Once the game finished we’d been told to go to the boxes to meet up but as we went up the stairs a guide came the other way and told us to go downstairs.
Basically we had no idea so we followed him and fair play, we did end up on a coach and got back to the hotel.
At that point Joss went back to the room for some kip and I uber’d a tuk tuk to take me back to the sports’ bar to watch Bournemouth v Liverpool.
There I got chatting to two friends and they asked me to join them.
One was a Man Utd fan and the other a City fan, both called Dan.
We all told stories about football and laughed a lot as we watched Bournemouth throw away a 2 goal lead.
It was at that point the couple of Liverpool fans made themselves known by cheering.
That encouraged my two new sports’ bar friennnnnds to cheer for Bournemouth just to upset them.
When Bournemouth scored the winner we all jumped up in the air and hugged each other.
The Liverpool fans left.
Then another guy came over and asked if we were really Bournemouth fans and I said I was, and he shook my hand and said he was so pleased Bournemouth had won, despite him being a Leeds fan.
Dan and Dan paid the couple of beers for me (very kind) and we hugged again as new found brothers.
I then got another tuk tuk home and unfortunately had to wake Joss up as they wouldn’t give me another key for the room - no doubt I’ll hear about that tomorrow…..
